Prucha Banjos New Workshop

Back when Czechoslovakia was a single country, and the “iron curtain” was in place, there were many there who were drawn to bluegrass by listening to the US military radio stations based in Germany.

One such person was a Jaroslav “Jarda” Prucha. A young man in his teens at the time who wanted to play the banjo but none were available. The best he could find was a pot with a modified guitar neck to accommodate the fifth-string. Having “made” this first banjo and with the subsequent the demand from others to have one, he started his own business.

Now some forty-plus years later Prucha banjos are known for quality of manufacture, tone and design. Played and endorsed by some of the best banjoists in the world, and respected as an equal alongside builders such Gibson, Stelling, Deering Nechville and Huber. Not only does he build great instruments, he supplies banjo parts to major manufacturers, luthiers and individuals.

With success comes growth and in 2019 Prucha Banjos bought the land and constructed a workshop to deal with the demand for its instruments. The formal opening of the workshop in December was a great musical party with friends and musicians from Europe and the USA.

With the help of Richard Cifersky, banjo player and owner of Banjolit, the online shop for innovative music products, we are proud to present a video of the party.
