Bluegrassfestival Freiolsheim

For five years the Bluegrassfestival Freiolsheim has been an integral part of the cultural calendar of bluegrass lovers in and around Freiolsheim (Baden Würtemberg). „We have never had so many people here“, said the organizer, Jürgen Krämer, who was very lucky about the bought out „Mahlberghalle“.

The first band of the evening was „The Lonesome Four“ from bavaria, accompanied by „Susanne Sievers“, who drove away their „Loneliness“ with dazzling violin solos. „The Lonesome Four“ presented a varied repertoire with traditional bluegrass and related songs. Their performance showed great hamony vocals and solo parts and fueled the enthusiasm of the 300 fans.

After a short break it was time for „The Grey Eagle“ from Frankfurt. Although all band members have been active in the scene for a long time, they had their very first festival appearance as a band. „The Grey Eagle“ showed some murder ballads with great four-part singing harmonys. It was also honored by the audience, that „Grey Eagle“ showed some own compsitions like „Old times“ from Dieter Zanger in their program.

The main act oft he evening were four gentleman from belgium. As the „Sons of Navarone“ they played stages over whole europe since 18 years. The „Sons“ quickly caught the attention oft he audience with their professional accuracy and their great humor. The highlights of their show were a rhytmic slapstick scatch of the bassist, Guido Bos, Banjo Player Paul van Vlodrop and Mandolinist Thierry Schoysman playing one and the same banjo together.
