BLUEGRASS CAMP GERMANY 2020

In April, 2014, Michael Pugh and Rüdiger Helbig introduced Bluegrass Camp Germany to the European Bluegrass community and were very delighted to have been a part of an experience that brought together so many talented musicians for a wonderful weekend of friendship, music and dangerous amounts laughter. More than 75 students and 10 teachers from Italy, Ireland, Switzerland, England, Holland, USA, Canada, Denmark, Spain, France, Ireland, Austria, Hungary, Slovenia, Czech Republic and Germany converged on the sleepy little Bavarian village of Fischbachau, to participate in our down home, get together.

Bluegrass Camp Germany is a 4 day, acoustic instrument & harmony singing music camp that specializes in teaching our students a traditional, straightforward style of American Bluegrass Music. The daily schedule includes an alternating mixture of theoretical classes combined with a wide selection of specialty workshops that include lead vocals, duet and 4 part harmony instruction, songwriting, music composition and band organization… just to name a few.

Bill Monroe, the Father of Bluegrass Music, is the man we take our inspiration from. We follow Bill’s philosophy and his belief that you should learn his music from someone sitting right down in front of you that can help you to understand the timings, tunings and subtle intricacies required to help you share with people the song that is buried inside your musical heart.

Our belief is that you must learn by doing! With that in mind, our “Jam Lab” structure will be divided into groups based on experience and skill level and lead by members of our internationally renowned teaching staff. We are very proud to have the absolute top professionals in Bluegrass Music on our teaching staff every year.

The beginner students are introduced to playing in a group style setting by learning basic chord progressions and a few classic Bluegrass tunes so that they can experience the joy of playing without relying on tablature to get them through a tune. Throughout the years, we’ve seen our students progress in leaps and bounds as a result of the careful attention paid to the basics, timing and good technique.

The highlight of each evening will be participating in one the various Jam Sessions that seem to form out the spontaneous need to express oneself in song. Always taking into account the skill level and playing ability, our teaching staff will navigate the students through the finer points of playing & singing this authentic American, musical art form. Advanced players have the opportunity to fine tune their already developed skill set by sitting in with a “Pro Style Jam Session”. So grab your hats and hold on tight!

On Saturday evening, our student bands will fill the Alpine air with a few tunes of their own before we let our Bluegrass All-Star Bands take to the back porch stage to amaze and inspire. We invite everyone to come on down, have a seat on our big back porch, take a big deep breath of the fresh Alpine air and be prepared to be inspired by a landscape that can only be described as “Spectacular”. We truly believe a family style atmosphere is the most important aspect for hosting a successful camp and the fantastic village of Fischbachau does not disappoint in providing the beautiful backdrop.
