Picking the Future

After the Bill Monroe Centennial…

For all Bluegrass enthusiasts and activists with a forum for exchange on subjects in which they take a personal and active interest.

The European Bluegrass Summit is a conference facilitated by EBMA and in line with EBMA's mission to work together to support Bluegrass music across borders.

After the success and positive feedback from the first years, the event has become a highlight of the European Bluegrass Music Association's agenda. The event is fully supported by IBMA as a major and effective tool to bring the scene together more closely and to find ways to fulfill the goals set at the previous meetings.

Let’s celebrate and move Bluegrass Music in Europe again, in 2012!

About the Summit

For the 4th consecutive time the City of Bühl will host this summit. And for the 1st time, the German Bluegrass Music Association is the host of Saturday’s concert featuring Strictly Bluegrass from Munich, and Bluegrass Cwrkot (CZ) to celebrate what the European Bluegrass scene has to offer. Summit participants are invited to the concert offered by GBMA.

Who should attend

The summit is open to all, professionals and non-professionals, members and non-members of the European or other national associations, who think they may benefit from sharing ideas and best practices with like-minded people doing similar work in other countries.

This includes fans, musicians, promoters, journalists, webmasters, national association reps and anyone else with a personal, professional or organisational interest in Bluegrass in Europe.

Goals

In line with EBMA's mission to work together to support Bluegrass music across borders, the summit aims to provide Bluegrass enthusiasts and activists with a forum for exchange on subjects in which they take a personal and active interest. New subjects may be raised but the primary focus of the summit will be to advance work already in progress since the first summit in 2009.

Previous summits

The first summit, held in 2009, brought 40 people together for the first time and reinforced the desire to work together. At the second summit in 2010, a certain number of key issues were identified for further work. EBS 2011 was attended by 50 people and the results have marked a big step in the network development again.

Topics for group discussion

These are essential forums for interested parties to exchange best practices and ideas on the subject in question. Details on the topics will be based on the results of the 2011 summit and will be announced shortly after the EBMA board meeting in fall 2011.
