Mideando is very proud to represent EBMA and the European World of Bluegrass (EWOB) Festival during the Trade Show at IBMA’s World of Bluegrass 2007 in Nashville.

String Quintet

It’s hard to make comparisons to a group this unique – but if a band like the Duhks came from Italy, they might sound something like the Mideando String Quintet. Founded in 1984 by mandolin player Stefano Santangelo, Mideando started out playing rock and pop covers arranged for bluegrass instruments. Conversely, they’d sometimes do jazzy arrangements of bluegrass standards. Either way, they are as impressive musically as they are entertaining, with their complex vocals, dynamic performances, and delightfully Italian flavor. Over the years their musical experimentation has borne rich fruit in the form of more original material and their own distinctive style of new acoustic music.

Mideando’s latest CD “TUTTE LE DIREZIONI” (Every Direction) will be unveiled at IBMA’s World of Bluegrass 2007 in Nashville, Tennessee!

The new CD features 7 original songs with Italian or English lyrics, plus 2 covers (Video Killed The Radio Star by The Buggles and These Are The Days Of Our Lives by Queen), and Mideando String Quintet’s very special versions of Will The Circle be Unbroken and Turkey In The Straw.

The #1 European Bluegrass Band is chosen each year at the European World of Bluegrass Festival in Voorthuizen, the Netherlands, by the world’s foremost experts in the field of European bluegrass: the musicians themselves. To allow the winning bands from different countries time to obtain the paperwork needed to visit the United States, EBMA sends the #1 European Bluegrass Band to Nashville the following year to IBMA’s World of Bluegrass. This award enables some of Europe’s finest bands a rare opportunity to showcase for you at WOB.

Mideando String Quintet is far from typical of our European bluegrass bands. The fact that the musicians selected one of our most avant garde groups to represent them at IBMA this year speaks volumes for the admiration and respect that Mideando has won from their colleagues for their high standards of musicianship and engaging showmanship.
